Public Education Campaign

The Public Education Campaign (PEC) is another APA-sponsored initiative. The PEC is a multi-year initiative that consists of several social marketing initiatives and targeted public awareness campaigns intended to accomplish specific objectives that support the association’s strategic plan. The overarching goal of the campaign is to educate the public about how the science and application of psychology benefits society and improves lives.

Campaign Initiatives

Current initiatives include campaigns on Mind/Body Health and Resilience and the Psychologically Health Workplace Awards. In 2014, APA added a new campaign initiative, Psychology: Science in Action, that demonstrates how translational science is unique to psychology and helps people in all areas of their lives.

Interested psychologists can obtain a fully developed presentation kit, including marketing materials and power-point presentations, for use in giving presentations to local businesses and community groups. The current PEC  representative is Jordan Soper, Psy.D.

Stress in America (by year)
The American Psychological Association has commissioned an annual nationwide survey as part of its Mind/Body Health campaign to examine the state of stress across the country and understand its impact. The Stress in America survey measures attitudes and perceptions of stress among the general public and identifies leading sources of stress, common behaviors used to manage stress and the impact of stress on our lives. The results of the survey draw attention to the serious physical and emotional implications of stress and the inextricable link between the mind and body.
