Outstanding Contribution in Diversity, Advocacy and Social Justice Award
NPA’s overall mission is to advance and represent psychology as a science and profession, as well as serve the professional needs of its membership and the community. Our commitment to diversity and social justice is a core value of our organization and is evidenced by our Diversity motto, “We love all brains.” We support, uplift, and serve all brains, regardless of the brain’s age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language or socioeconomic status. Created in 2024, this award is given to an individual who has tirelessly worked to break down systemic barriers and give voice to the voiceless through practice, research, teaching, and/or advocacy. The recipient of this award has exemplified what it means to “love all brains,” and their work is characterized by themes of central to the promotion of cultural diversity, social justice, and equity.
2025 Outstanding Contribution in Diversity, Advocacy and Social Justice Award Winner
Kristen Davis-Coelho, Ph.D. was recognize for her recently published book “The Best Care for Those with the Least” which focuses on care to those in low socioeconomic communities. It is an empowering and compassionate guide for healthcare professionals treating low-income patients that weaves memorable stories, research findings, and the voices of both medical providers and patients in an easy to read guide. In addition to providing expert recommendations based on 25 years of experience, Dr. Davis-Coelho's book brings the unique perspective of someone who’s been there and offers fresh insights, effective strategies and deep respect for the work that she does every day.
